Ontario's premier was in Guelph at a provincial data centre to announce the province’s framework for its Data Centre Playbook, which is open for public comment for 30 days.

All but one of the 16 elected officials in the city had voted in favour of a bylaw that would put a pause on new data centres in the city for a year. Then, at a council meeting the following month where the bylaw was expected to pass, the majority of council flipped.

Canada’s National Observer found and drew from multiple sources to put together a map of planned data centres in Ontario, and found at least 15 projects with a combined capacity of 2,202 MW currently proposed — equating to the annual electricity draw of around two million homes — for data centres alone.
